WeddingsAndSocialMediaFor a lot of my readers and twitter followers, it will come as old news that I’m divorced. It will also come as no shock that I am in a relationship with BrandG, who has been more to me than my ex ever was. So it is with a huge smile on my face that I am formally announcing my engagement to Brand. He asked. I said yes.

And there in lays the problem. What does a well branded chick do when her name changes?

My Options

Right now I’m seeing several options and most of them aren’t quite as thrilling as I’d like at this point in time. The First and most obvious is not change any of my online branding and keep my name as it has been. The major drawback here is that I’m more traditional and WANT to change my name. Not to mention Duncan isn’t my maiden name. It’s my Ex’s name. Need I say more?

My second option is to change my name and then go through the long process of rebranding everything to my new name. I don’t like the amount of work this entails, but I think it might be necessary in the long run.

Third, I can keep this site up and then switch everything over to my new site with a new URL with a non-name oriented branding. This may be my best option, though less than 8 months ago I did some major site restructuring.

Possible Fallout

The most major issue so far is the loss of page rank and visibility. It makes such a major decision a lot more difficult. However, there has been a lull in my online activity as I’ve just been kind of burned out lately between my other projects and life happening. It is possibly the perfect time, especially as it is a new year, to have to restart or rebrand.

I’ll be looking at this matter closely and doing a ton of research as the day of change approaches. But the wedding is a year off, so I’ve got time. I just need to start planning my online changes as I will be my off line wedding.

Have I mentioned how excited I am?

Cheers!
